3 Tips for Creating Space in a Small Kitchen

Kitchens can become places of major clutter if you’re not careful. There is not much space for anything on the counters if you put every appliance that you own out at once. We all want the convenience of having everything at our fingertips but that can turn into a big chaotic mess real fast. Thankfully there are simple ways to avoid such fiascos and all it takes is a little time and planning. Here are 3 tips for creating space in a small kitchen that you probably never thought about until now.

Clear your counters

Everything that you own does not need to be on the counter all at the same time. Take away those appliances that you almost never use and place them in storage or in the bottom cabinet. Throw away things that you don’t use and only leave out the appliances that you use on a daily basis, such as your toaster, coffee maker, and microwave. Anything else is just clutter.

Organize your cabinets

Believe it or not, you have plenty of space in your cabinets for all of your stuff if you would just organize them better. Throw out the old foods that have expired and get rid of all those old plastic containers that you never use, and purchase some baskets and organizing containers to keep everything looking neat and in place. If you can open your cabinet and something falls out on its own, then you need to buy some baskets to hold your things in. If you are on a budget, the dollar store is a great place to start looking for some containers. Don’t forget to label things that you put in your baskets.

Use what you have

If you have a large cabinet that you only use for your special dishes, then you are wasting space. Move those rarely used items to a storage area and use that cabinet for the things that you actually use in your daily life. Don’t use your kitchen to store your grandmother’s heirlooms because your kitchen is not big enough for that. Be practical and keep things in their place at all times. If you have space in that lower cabinet that most people can’t reach, put in a lazy Susie to help you fill the space and reach your items easier. Try hiding your trashcan in a cabinet to make more floor space. It will also hide the smell and appearance. Put a small shelf inside your cabinet door to hold your sponges and brushes. No need to have them all over the counter. If you have wall space hang some of your pots and pans on a rack so that they will be handy and you will make more space in your cabinet for other things.
